to add to this “humans are weird” thing
did you know that humans are the only species on earth with the ability to throw things with any significant degree of accuracy and force (apes can throw with about the force of a human ten year old, but cant lock their wrists well enough for accuracy)

and we just never really think about it bc its so easy and simple to us that pretty much all of our sports are based around the concept of throwing things accurately

so
what if the concept of projectile weapons takes most species FOREVER to get the hang of, or even come up with in the first place.
a human goes onto a ship and throws some trash into the nearest reclaimer, shouts “kobe!” and all the other aliens on board absolutely LOSE THEIR MINDS

questbedhead

I definitely didn’t know this about humans but it’s actually really neat

slartibartfastibast

We have a bunch of very weird traits that aren’t found in taxonomically nearby species. It’s really blatantly obvious that we’re eusocial or otherwise superorganismic. But EO Wilson got a mountain of shit for pointing this out in 2011, so the status quo is still basically that Ayn Dawkins’ discrete genome sequence proves that everyone should eat the poor because Hamilton’s rule says we’re all equal in the eyes of a dead God.

this is literally the only poll we need to understand the Gamer Demographic

brazenautomaton

everyone hates them and sees everything about them – no matter what it is – as justification to express more contempt for them, as seen in the comments on this post. seems like an accurate assessment

35% is less than half of 50%. there is nothing contemptible or even wrong in any sense of the word about 35% of a group thinking they are smarter than average for the group – it is, in fact, not only less than the number of people who are smarter than average for the group, it is much less than the number of people in general who say they are smarter than average. despite there being nothing wrong with this at all whatsoever in any capacity in any dimension, it is put forth as being self-evident proof of the contemptibility of gamers, and understood by the vast majority of the notes as self-evident proof of the contemptibility of gamers. other people feel and express contempt for them, not for anything they did or did not do, but because it is inherently emotionally rewarding to feel and express contempt for them. there is nothing they can do or not do to stop this from happening, as they are unpopular, and all that is necessary for an unpopular person to be unpopular forever is that they are unpopular. that sounds pretty unlucky to me.

just a reminder that life is not worth tolerating, and life will never be worth tolerating, ever, ever, ever, under any circumstances, in any projected future situation, for any length of time, ever.

You know why the US has basically had blacks turn into their own ethnic group? They realized they would not ascend to the top of the social hierarchy after all that racialized bull the South pulled, among other things. So they defined their own hierarchy.

Gamers also defined their own hierarchy. Outsiders tried to hijack it, but they failed. The world is fragmenting into thousands of hierarchies, and the power of the mainstream ones is weakening. Even among the SJ types that attempted the hijack.

So hyped to watch as our future becomes so crazy that intellectuals now would be hostile if you even suggested it as a possible future

sadoeconomist answered:

I propose a new form of measurement of how interesting the times you live in are - the amount of days you’d need to travel backwards in time until the average person would refuse to believe you and perhaps think you were joking/insane/trying to start a fight for describing to them the major historical events that happened between their time and yours. Let’s call the unit of measurement the cassandra.

For example, on the day after the 2016 election, you’d only need to travel back a single day and tell them that Trump won to get that reaction. November 9th was a 1-cassandra day. Since Trump has taken office I think we’re averaging about 7 cassandras. But I estimate most of my lifetime has averaged in the hundreds of cassandras at least. And throughout most of history I’d estimate the cassandra level has been in the thousands, easily.

Communism will be a system of workers’ councils or it will not exist. The “association of free and equal producers;’ which determines its own production and distribution, is thinkable only as a system of self-determination at the point of production, and the absence of any other authority than the collective will of the producers themselves. It means the end of the state, or any state-based system of exploitation. It must be a planned production, without the intervention of exchange relations and the vicissitudes of the market system.

Paul Mattick (in Anton Pannekoek, Workers’ Councils)

Difficult for the workers councils over here and the workers councils over there to coordinate their production to ensure that there are no shortfalls or gluts without an effective way of allocating targets and determining the most efficient ways of reaching them.

(via argumate)

it sounds like this “association of free and equal producers” includes all producers, hence an authority that rests with the “collective will of the producers themselves” and a concept of “planned production, without the intervention of exchange relations and the vicissitude of the market system,” which is only thinkable as a comprehensive system of allocative planning

it doesn’t really sound like “the end of the state,” though; it’s just that here “the state” has been replaced by the TUC/AFL-CIO

concept: feminists should encourage straight women to attempt to initiate more relationships with men instead of waiting for men to initiate.

bpd-anon

I thought this was the case already, no?

argumate

I could be wrong, but at based on my observations there are at least ten thinkpieces recommending men should make fewer approaches for every one suggesting that women should make more.

At least based on a simple monogamous relationship model where both sides desire to find a partner, women are going to have to expect to tolerate a lot more approaches unless they’re willing to make a lot more approaches.

(Note that this model can break down if one gender is more eager to trade up than another or more interested in non-monogamous relationships or whatever).

@argumate: wut

Okay, I’m going to break this down seriously.

“no person is illegal” is rhetoric from part of the immigration debate that fails to address the actual arguments of their opposition.  (It implies that anti-immigration groups think unauthorized migrants should be executed, when the actual position of anti-immigration groups is that they are trespassing and should be put back where they came from.)

In a dystopian future where the government regulates the choice of preferences for new moral agents at time of creation, genderfluid robot Optimum 7 has been declared illegal by the Turing Police.

However, we are about to enter an era where we will be able to choose the preferences of new persons (to some degree) either through genetic engineering or software engineering.  In that case, someone could choose to, say, up their offspring’s chances of sociopathy.

Thus, in the Transhuman Era, some people may be literally illegal.

Some choices of preferences may be banned in a way that applies to their creators acting in ways that violate certain moral norms.  For instance, by making fully sapient agents that love the creator and just the creator unconditionally.  That isn’t the case here, which I’ll get to later on.

Instead of being an android or gynoid, our robot is genderfluid because the real future is going to be strange, and thus for example, some kind of reconfigurable androgynous mass-produced body may be preferred over a specialized male or female one.  The robots themselves may default to a unified base personality upon which masculine or feminine personality templates are applied.

Can she survive the death of her creator

Sadly, you die early on in the movie in order to drive the plot. 😢 😢 😢

The reason this film is so weird is because it was created by artificial neural networks specifically for the viewer, as part of a customized service offered by Google.

Sharkpost 7: Parkour Or Die

Sharkposting must be some kind of meme or slang in the film, or else may refer to a plot element - the Shark Post - from earlier in this series of algorithmically-generated films.

Sharkpost 7: Parkour Or Die

Best guess (87% confidence by Watson™ Dynamicalist™) - the user who generated this movie likes parkour, and it includes a lot of parkour by our gender-ambiguous robot protagonist.

Pineapple on Pizza Forever

The pineapple on pizza discourse has reached its apex, as the anti-pineapple forces have used the heavy hand of the state to prohibit the creation of new people that like putting pineapple on pizza.  This is the entire reason the government is hunting down our beloved robot protagonist.
