I know this is trying to be charitable, but the second is making the problem worse, by acting like “artificial chemicals” or “man-made substances” can mean anything else than “chemicals”. The only way to meaningfully interpret this is to talk about chemicals naturally occurring in a foodstuff and additives, and even then there are plenty of things that are unhealthy and occur naturally. Of course, you could say you refer to “toxic chemicals”, which makes the sentence “chemicals re bad for your health” a tautology. I don’t know why it gets so much under my skin when you get it *almost* right.
Look m8 people just don’t want perfluorooctanoic acid and neurotoxins in their food due to the history of previous man-selected or manufactured materials turning out poorly despite claims the materials were perfectly safe.
