Why do they even bother
If they acknowledge that ideology has played a role here, and which ideology it was, they’d have to dramatically rethink their politics. Avoiding this requires pretending that 1950s America would have created anti-gay death squads, or that Trump is ten minutes away from executing Peter Thiel and only their brave corporate-sponsored resistance is postponing the death sentence.
