I mean, to be honest, you’re right, they’re failing to properly contextualize existing technology because it’s changing so fast.  I’m just saying that if they were more future-oriented, they’d skip right past it to the next set of plausible technologies.  I mean, I’m not running on all pistons and I can come up with this stuff easily enough.

That’s still a more interesting failure mode and it doesn’t look dated the moment it’s published.  TOS has actually aged reasonably well.

I don’t really think of TOS as reaching that far in terms of predictions, at least in terms of the everyday technology used by the crew.

It did reach relatively far for its day. But it occurs to me - anything that can be displayed with paper could be displayed with a screen. So what decade would actually predict the portable fax machine? It would have to be 50s or probably earlier.

I don’t know if I’d say I ‘dislike’ transhumanism so much as it’s important to keep the general arc of science and medicine in mind.

“Scientists installed robot wings in my back and now I can fly” is awesome. “Scientists installed first-generation robot wings in my back and then I was in unbearable pain because all of my spinal discs prolapsed” is not.

Which is related to my other thought, which is that we just aren’t very good at predicting what life would be like under very different circumstances. On a certain level transhumanism isn’t that different from people saying that we’d have flying cars and robot maids by the year 2000.

The thing about Neoreaction is that Gnon doesn’t care about you, either, and neither did it care about species throughout history that have gone extinct - and what we want is survival and prosperity for ourselves, not to be subject to outrageous Fortune.  And Fnargl?  There’s no reason for him not to overwrite your mind with his superior technology or just replace you with a robot.

Neoreaction is not positioned to account for Transhumanism, among other things.  As such, it’s a dead end.

Any overlap I have with Neoreactionary thought is largely incidental.  I don’t really interact with them, nor read them.

I want to shitpost that Social Justice is White Supremacy.

Because under badly-done Social Justice, we see a pattern where only white males have agency, only white males have power, only white males are capable of action that actually does anything and can cause harm, and their resources are effectively unlimited.  Under that same framework, the world is divided into whites and everyone else, and the whites enacted truly stunning and powerful violence on an unimaginable scale that no one else could.  Their dominance is so overwhelming that any minorities disagreeing with SJ have “internalized male opinions” or white opinions, like some kind of mind control, and are incapable of deciding their beliefs for themselves.  And the white supremacy must be actively held down, or it will inevitably seize control of the world.

But of course, it isn’t really the case that even badly-done SJ is truly white supremacist…

 - white (or “people who think they are white”, Ta-Nehisi Coates)
 - people of color
 - just folks
