Why would you ever like/want to read age gap where a grown adult is with a teenager!?

Maybe because it’s the only way to write about someone inexperienced with someone experienced without being mocked or told you’re writing “Born Sexy Yesterday” (and then being mocked and condemned for that particular offense).

I feel like the second you write anyone over 20 as sexually inexperienced, people either start laughing at how pathetic it is or start wondering what’s wrong with the character. The older the characters get, the more intense it gets

If you’re single at 30, most people assume it’s because you have a few failed relationships under your belt (or are widowed). Being 30 and inexperienced (or never have dated/married) is almost a crime to some people.

They literally can not wrap their heads around it.

Hell, that whole “Born Sexy Yesterday” video pretty much embodies this! The entire video is basically screaming: “How dare you write about a grown woman who has no sexual experience!? The only way they’d be that ignorant is if they’re a teenager or a child!!!”

I think the distinction that people don’t make is that…

  1. For a woman, sometimes you can get a man to fight for you, so it makes sense to get him to take on all that risk himself.
  2. For a woman, the upper body strength distribution is almost bimodal, so it makes even more sense not to fight and send a man instead if you might end up fighting a man.
  3. Society often treats women and their violence as harmless.  (The flip side of the glass ceiling.)

So if you have a high stress situation consisting only of women, isolated from society and from men, it may well get violent.

Do we have any actual statistics on rates of violence in all-female societies?

All girls schools seem the obvious test case. A quick google gives me one article saying that violent bullying is worse in all femae schools, but other studies say the opposite. Confounders are a problem obviously. But at the very least the numbers  are close enough that there isn’t conclusive evidence. There’s some interesting stuff saying that bullying for not conforming to gender stereotypes is less bad in single sex environments, but that doesn’t necessarily say anything about the total levels

i still think it’s darkly hilarious that so many men heard women say ‘i want a man that’s sensitive’ and heard it as ‘i, a man, should be extremely sensitive about my feelings and desires, that is what women want, they want to be kept constantly walking on eggshells around my hairtrigger emotional state,’ instead of ‘ohhh women want partners who are sensitive to THEIR feelings and desires’.

like. this isn’t that hard. practice emotional reciprocity with women. listen to and sympathize with them. it will make your life way better than just demanding that people constantly cater to you and then not giving anyone anything back.

Blogger Shocked to Discover That When Told “Do Something Different,” Gender Whose Traditional Role Includes Relationship-Inwards Sensitivity to Women, Outwards Stone-Faced Stoicism, Actually Does Something Different

Like, “pay attention to my girlfriend’s emotions, be sensitive to my girlfriend’s emotions, but otherwise be a stone-faced, indestructible rock golem of strength” is the expectation.

And when straight women who are upset about things like in your post say they want a “sensitive guy,” it’s phrased in ways like “I want a guy who knows it’s okay to cry.”

Like, that pretty clearly means in touch with his own emotions.

Straight guys expect that if they are emotional in ways other than validating the emotions of their girlfriends, women will break up with them.

You tagged this “bangs pots and pans in a masculine manner” so I’m going to assume you’re male.  You should really know better than this, if you’re not just doing rah rah performative wokeness.

Walking on eggshells is never fun, but I always get the sense from these conversations that it’s always “how dare women have to walk on eggshells?  What, lots of straight men already had to walk on eggshells?  Who cares about them??”

And in turn, I can’t see it anything other than yet another gender war munition that men should just ignore.

You know that Tumblr “Anti-Nazi” FAQ post that ends with “what if I thought I was punching a Nazi, but it was actually just a white dude with a shitty haircut?” “Run.”?

I said that was a terrible idea, but I didn’t expect it to get quite so literal.

Of course, in this environment, who knows if this is real, but this is basically what one would expect.  The most punch-happy are going to be the least controlled about who they punch.
