[sees a long, long history of prima facie good ideas from the sociopolitical extremes having amazingly brutal consequences and blowback even on the rare occasions when they’re adopted after tons of consideration and study]

“Heh, stupid centrists.”

Centrists: *Sees unnecessary death being normalized in the 21st century despite being easily preventable*

Centrists: Um things could be worse??? Both extremes are equally bad?? I don’t know anything about history except events in a vacuum?????

Actually yes, things could be way, way worse. Despite Tumblr complaints, Bland Centrism, like Bland Liberalism, is better than most currently existing political ideologies at the edges, which normalize pointless deaths even more. What surpasses Bland Centrism is likely going to be new, exotic, different, because we tried a lot of the other ones and it sucked. Anyone still talking about workers’ councils isn’t fighting the battles of the 21st century.

Also, there is substantial disagreement on where to depart from Bland Centrism. I don’t think you and I would see eye to eye on how culture-blind immigration policies are normalizing death in Europe right now, for instance.
