Gentle reminder that I don’t think that men are bad or that women are bad, but the discourse around them dating is bad:

  • Some women often hold other men and women to patriarchial gender standards
  • Other people act like nobody adheres to rigid gender roles any more and there is no cost to breaking them
  • Straight women suck at understanding what dating a woman is like
  • People don’t grow up right when they turn 18
  • Most people gradually do grow up around 22-25
  • Dating experiences carry over from your time as a teenager or a self-conscious adult, even though they don’t apply any more
  • Dating advice is dependent on lots of context, but if you are the kind of person who needs advice, you likely cannot tell what is relevant and which kind of advice applies to you

“men and women have statistically different preferences” is a statement universally acknowledged and incredibly controversial at the same time

probably the dissonance is resolved by carefully distinguishing actual men and women (who have statistically differing preferences due to existing in this fallen world and being shaped and moulded by society into the twisted creations that we see all around us) and the Platonic ideal of men and women, who are equal in every way and have identical preferences and behaviour at a statistical level.

admission time: I think that some of the gender forbidden shadowspeech is probably true for a sizeable chunk, once you’ve removed the lesbians, the gays, the bisexuals, transgender individuals, queers, asexuals, autistics, adhders, those with PCOS… basically anyone who has a good reason that they might differ from main plan. (as many as 1/5th of women may have PCOS for instance - not a trivial number)

The idea that there are no innate differences between men and women is really freaking weird! At least it’s internally consistent as a TERF narrative.

But it’s especially weird when I hear it out of the mouths of transgender people. There are no differences between men and women—but I’m really a woman!

which is weird, because at least some people I know taking hormones report changes they’ve personally experienced.

but “no brain differences” is doing a lot of work in that sentence; if taken literally it would suggest that men and women are indistinguishable statistically, which is far from the truth (eg. why do men take more risks if their brains are no different to women?)

Did I not just reblog a link to a study in which each brain is unique and yet there are statistical distributions in structure which are overlapping but not uniform? Plus a lack differences in physical layout may not correspond to a lack of difference from the effect of hormones! “We are all neurologically the same” is liberal blank-slate wishful thinking, and, from progressive news outlets, a deliberate misrepresentation.

I know previously “but there may be differences” has been used to defend unjustified policy, the problem is that just because it was used to defend unjustified policy doesn’t mean it is false.

Back when I kept my eyes on MRAs, they called this hyperagency/hypoagency. (Outside of them, there is an idea of “hypermasculinity” applied to black people, but I don’t know the details.) It likely originates in the biological expendability of men as compared to women in terms of being a population bottleneck.

Regardless, because the MRM is a reaction to Feminism and Traditionalism (and could be considered a rogue school of Feminism), it can incorporate these ideas. A high quality MRA is thus often more clueful about gender equality than the median Feminist. Low quality MRAs not so much.
