Honestly, I don’t know what the reaction to this will be. It’s probably a better choice than physically beating each other up in mobs, though, and maybe we’ll get a return of Social Justice Capture The Flag and people will calm down.
>Thinking that scrubbing the US of it’s historic monuments will end with the confederacy
I have bad news you for you, when the long term demographic trend in America’s cities is bound to become more PoC than of the ethic class that previously owned people of colour.
Unsurprisingly, the same issues raised about the presence of confederate
monuments applies also to the founding fathers of the union, who are
just as guilty for holding the same views on race as those who
attempted to leave the union 100 years later during the civil war:
CHICAGO (CBS) — A Chicago pastor has asked
the Emanuel administration to remove the names of two presidents who
owned slaves from parks on the South Side, saying the city should not
honor slave owners in black communities.
A bronze statue of George Washington on horseback stands at
the corner of 51st and King Drive, at the northwest entrance to
Washington Park.
Bishop James Dukes, pastor of Liberation Christian Center,
said he wants the statue gone, and he wants George Washington’s name
removed from the park.
“When I see that, I see a person who fought for the
liberties, and I see people that fought for the justice and freedom of
white America, because at that moment, we were still chattel slavery,
and was three-fifths of humans,” he said. “Some people out here ask me,
say ‘Well, you know, he taught his slaves to read.’ That’s almost sad;
the equivalent of someone who kidnaps you, that you gave them something
to eat.”
Dukes said, even though Washington was the nation’s first
president and led the American army in the Revolutionary War, he’s no
hero to the black community.
“There’s no way plausible that we would even think that they
would erect a Malcolm X statue in Mount Greenwood, Lincoln Park, or any
of that. Not that say Malcolm X was a bad guy; they just would not go
for it,” he said. “Native Americans would not even think about putting
up a Custer statue, because of the atrocities that he plagued upon
Native Americans. And for them to say to us ‘just accept it’ is actually
insulting.”
The pastor also said President Andrew Jackson’s name should
be removed from nearby Jackson Park, because he also was a slave owner.
He said he’s not necessarily asking the city rename the parks
altogether. He suggested Washington Park could be named after former
Mayor Harold Washington, and Jackson Park could be named after civil
rights leader Rev. Jesse Jackson or singer Michael Jackson.
Dukes said he’s not trying to erase history. He said black
people should be able to decide who is and is not honored in their
communities.
“I think we should be able to identify and decide who we
declare heroes in or communities, because we have to tell the stories to
our children of who these persons are,” he said.
He said parks, statues, or other monuments honoring
Presidents Washington and Jackson might be appropriate elsewhere, but
not in black neighborhoods.
“In an African-American community, it’s a slap in the face and it’s a disgrace for them to honor someone who was a slave owner.
Dukes said he has sent letters to Mayor Rahm Emanuel and the
Chicago Park District asking them to change the names of Washington and
Jackson parks. He shared the letter on Facebook.
“I am feeling ambivalent that I would have to walk my child,
attend a parade or enjoy a game of softball in a park that commemorates
the memory of a slave owner,” he wrote. “Therefore, I call on the
immediate removal of President George Washington and President Andrew
Jackson names from the parks located on the southeast side of Chicago.
They should not have the distinct honor of being held as heroes when
they actively participated in the slave trade.”
Representatives for the mayor did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
What neither side of US politics wants to admit: the promotion of identity politics combined with the declining white super majority
has led to turbo charged white identity politics. Since Dems catered for non-white identity politics, Trump and the GOP took hold of
white identity politics.
Most countries that do not have a 70%+ super majority ethnic group have ethnicized
electoral politics.
Last week Trump supporters and leftist social justice warriors met on
the political field of battle in Berkeley, California. Words were
exchanged, as were punches. And while an alt-right leader was punched in
the face, by all accounts even the social justice warriors admit that
they got a major beat-down.
This prompted a reddit discussion
among the left’s tolerant resistance movement, with many asking how
they can more effectively go to war against anyone who disagrees with
their social, political, and economic views.
I love the second to last comment, a lone voice of reason.
This is troubling to say the least, but if they go about getting their guns legally not much can be done.
Yeah, no. These are the same people that previously gave anyone hell for defending the 2nd Amendment, including LGBT people and women wanting to protect themselves.
The people that make up ANTIFA are the social outcast loser kids that got beat up and picked on at school. These are the kind of people that fantasize about violently striking back at everyone who ever made fun of them. They’re NOT mentally stable, they’re bitter, and this is the excuse for turning violent that they’ve always DREAMED of. They’ve always been the ones most likely to go full Columbine, and now they see an opportunity since they’ve realized that literally NO ONE sees them as a threat, and they’re a bunch of punk-ass kids that can’t fight for shit.
They realized they ain’t shit without weapons, so now they suddenly support the right to bear arms. What a bunch of fucking hypocrites.
Funny how people who are extremely pro-second amendment are now shitting themselves over antifa arming themselves. It’s almost as if this wasn’t ever about guns, but about power. Now that antifa are realising what they need to do, their opponents are getting scared, scared because they know there’s nothing they can do to win.
Can I send you the $7,000,000 bill when Charles Murray, whose reaction to his findings was to suggest instituting a basic income, which is pretty much the opposite of systematically murdering people, gets shot by one of your idiots?
Because that’s what this is about.
You guys can’t even avoid pepper-spraying people wearing bitcoin hats and destroying cars belonging to immigrants. Your Nazi-dar is apparently complete trash judging by its results. If you can’t even avoid physically assaulting people that aren’t Nazis with non-lethal weapons because you’re so obsessed with “punchin’ Natzis!”, then it’s almost inevitable that random people are going to get killed in this misguided quest to become revolutionaries.
This goes double over the obsession of characterizing speech you guys disagree with as a form of “violence” in order to excuse this behavior.
I actually suspect that the switch to identity politics over class politics may have been based on a growing ineffectiveness of class politics.
“BUT THE POOR!” lost ground as more cached arguments were built up against it, even if it wasn’t entirely justified.
“BUT RACISM!” still had a lot of bite and could circumvent some of those cached arguments. So, it’s natural to shift to it and build the platform around it.
It had a lot of bite, anyway.
There was always the focus on what was morally right, even in the minds of people who claimed they didn’t believe in morality, over what was effective policy, so now we get a lot of talk about guilt, or about pie in the sky ideas of “dismantling the systems of X oppression requires dismantling capitalism” (and people remember how “we need to dismantle capitalism” went last time), and not so much about “we should distribute multivitamins to the poor.”
I mean, that does sometimes get through, but the zeitgeist doesn’t seem to care about it as much as it cares about language policing and thinks that beneficial policies will just naturally unfold once everyone acknowledges their sin.
I just saw an article last week suggesting that using identity politics in the US was a bad plan because the majority can practice identity politics, too, and the definition of “white” has expanded in the past.
I’m pretty hyped. What exciting new races or ethnic groups will be considered “white” in the future? Could Asian-Latin fusion cuisine become the next official white people food? When will they be issued their official White Man™ polo shirts?
The politics of any country would be greatly improved if the politicians had such a sense of shame when they fucked up that they committed seppuku on their own.
But if they had shame, would they still be politicians?
So Gavin McInnes and Kyle Chapman are putting together an American Freikorps right now and lefties still think that “punch a nazi” and endorsing antifa/black bloc is a viable tactic
Wait, Murray suggested UBI as a solution to what The Bell Curve suggested? Huh, that does seem reasonable, but I guess from an r/K perspective it seems kind of flawed
Apparently he wrote a whole book about instituting basic income as an alternative to the existing welfare system. Since he hasn’t abandoned The Bell Curve, I think it follows that that’s his response to the matter. I wasn’t sure on this, but I saw a clip of him advocating $10k for income plus $3k for healthcare the other day.
I’m not sure it’s an ideal policy (I think wage subsidies are likely a better option), but one must admit that giving the group you supposedly hate unconditional money transfers is not very Fascist behavior.
Tbh i find your politics inscrutable, your writing style and your self-memery hit-or-miss, but what the hell, when failure costs little, experimentation should be encouraged, so rock on
