See, that’s what the app is perfect for.

Sounds perfect Wahhhh, I don’t wanna

isn't turn signaling technically also virtue signaling?

argumate answered:

only if you actually have no real intention of turning at all.

*puts my turn signal on near the exit for the charity so the other cars will think I’m a good person, actually gets off at the exit for the casino*

This is interesting, since I also find myself using the shorthand of describing cars as having agency and making decisions, rather than their drivers.

It’s going to get confusing in about 10 years.

Our time is already more fetishistic than the past.  It wouldn’t be surprising for the future to be more fetishistic than the present, especially given a reduction in morphological restraints under either Transhumanism or heavy Virtual Reality.

Future-shocking readers that way, however, will actually shock them now, even though androids, ray guns, and starships operating on impossible physics don’t shock them at all.

licking-the-liquid-crystal asked:

Suicide? What happened to looking forward to the immortality singularity?

ranma-official answered:

Not possible.

Humans are always on the brink of discovering immortality, which is just beyond the cutting edge of current science. Now, with Big Data, it’s brain uploading. Recently it was the human genome project, earlier still, transplants, pharmaceutics. During the Conquista, with the Fountain of Youth, it was cartography.

100% of people who were born will die on this planet.

mitigatedchaos

Nah, it’s not brain uploading anymore, we’re back to biology again. Right now we’re mostly getting tech to make being old suck less.  It’s at the stage the robot arms controlled by monkeys in labs were 10-15 years ago, so it should actually arrive, just like nervous-system-controlled prosthetic limbs are now a real thing.  Clearing Alzheimer’s plaques in mice and the experiment with old and new blood from joined mice rejuvenating the old mouse are examples, as well as tissue engineering for growing new organs.  Getting stuff for humans out of CRISPR Cas9 will take a bit longer, probably another decade before it reaches that stage.

It’s unclear whether aging escape velocity will be reached within our lifetimes, but it’s still within the realm of probability, supposing the countries advancing the current technological edge don’t crash, and… they may not actually crash.  Renewable energy is still picking up even as subsidies end, and we have enough uranium to power industrial civilization for 3,000 years in the oceans, if we must resort to it.

I really really really want to see mission work on North Sentinel Island in my lifetime. Maybe carried out via spying on them long enough with drones disguised as insects to learn their language, and then using further very sturdy drones to communicate with them.

thathopeyetlives answered:

Maybe! Any kind of dealings with the Sentinelese will have to be pretty cautious if we want them to be able to maintain their autonomy at all, though.

mitigatedchaos

No.  There is some risk that we don’t fully know yet that is partially mitigated (a chaos, even) by leaving a few isolated groups of humans uncontacted and separate from modern civilization, a risk that probably doesn’t go away until the stage of interplanetary colonization.

A blockade should be established, if necessary, and those attempting to violate it arrested.

The only condition under which they should be contacted is if it is determined that they are otherwise doomed to die out as a tribe.

Those fleeing the island on their own are another matter.

Basically don’t call people “cucks“. Don’t be surprised when people react badly to being called “cucks“. Don’t try to reclaim “cuck“ by telling other people that being cuckolded is a good thing.

By the year 2035, it is common slang for “acting against one’s own self-interest”. Puffed up thinkpiece writers write on the virtue of enviro-cuckism and a hundred other causes.

on whatever has replaced Tumblr, debates still rage over whether it’s okay for anyone to use this reclaimed slur, or if you have to be a cuck yourself.

This discussion intensifies following the release of the first cuckbot, which exists solely to raise male status by getting cucked. Female cuckbots for women are soon released. Sales of conventional sex robots dwindle.
